I thought I would go ahead and submit this tattoo, since it sort of goes with my ongoing “resolution”. The tattoo was done by Myles Karr in Brooklyn.
The reason I got it was Aldous Huxley’s “The Island”, which is a utopian novel. In the novel, Mynah birds fly around singing out “Attention Attention!”:
“But why did they teach him those things? Why ‘Attention’? Why ‘Here and now’?” “Well …That’s what you always forget, isn’t it? I mean, you forget to pay attention to what’s happening. And that’s the same as not being here and now.” “And the mynahs fly about reminding you—is that it?”AND“Attention,” the mynah bird began to call again from the other side of the house. “Attention.” Will shook his head. “Attention to what?” “To this.” And she dug her nails into the skin of his forehead. “‘This. Here and now. And it isn’t anything so romantic as suffering and pain. It’s just the feel of fingernails. And even if it were much worse, it couldn’t possibly be forever or to infinity. Nothing is forever, nothing is to infinity.Reblogging my own tattoo.
